MYRTLE BEACH -- Thousands of pounds of steel were delivered to Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach Thursday.
The steel will be used to build the A-frame for the Skywheel going up at the end of The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. When finished, the Skywheel will be the largest ferris wheel east of the Mississippi.
The 8 steel legs delivered Thursday weigh 35,000 pounds a piece. The walls of each leg are between 1 and 1.5 inches thick.
Julie Foshage is with the construction company building the Skywheel, Chancel Builders. "We're excited to be here in Myrtle Beach and to be part of the growth here on the boardwalk and are going to be incremental to the businesses here," she said.
The top of the wheel will bring riders up 200 feet above the ocean.
You should be able to take a ride in May.
