FLORENCE -- Kendra Grant, 21, has been charged with Accessory after the fact of a Felony in connection with the death of Tylashia Grant, 3.

Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff's Office say Kendra Grant was "present at or about the time the child received injuries leading to her death and failed to report the same or attempt to obtain medical attention for the child."

Investigators arrested Kesha Grant and Jeraldine Brockington in January on charges of Homicide by Child Abuse. Kendra is Tylashia's cousin, Kesha's sister, and Jeraldine's daughter.

She is being held at the Florence County Detention Center. A bond hearing is scheduled before a Florence County Magistrate Friday at 2 p.m.

Both Kesha and Jeraldine remain in jail after their bond was denied in a previous hearing. Judge Michael Nettles said he considered both a flight risk and kept them in jail due to the seriousness of the crime with which they are charged.

At the hearing, lead investigator Jennifer Floyd, with the Florence County Sheriff's Office, said Tylashia had burns all over body when she was taken to the emergency room January 25. Floyd said many of the burns were old. She told the court that Brockington and Grant failed to get Tylashia adequate medical care and finally took the child to the hospital only when she was unresponsive.

Tylashia's teacher at Carver Elementary School also testified that day, describing Tylashia as a happy and lovable child. She said they called the child "Little Bit" because she was so small. School officials said they had made several complaints to DSS about their suspicions that the Tylashia was being mistreated at home.

The Department of Social Services has told us they are conducting an internal investigation into the case. They have yet to respond to our requests for information about complaints that may have been made to them about Tylashia's care.
