About 1,000 people are currently on the organ transplant waiting list in South Carolina. Nearly 90 percent of them need kidneys.
One of those people is Henri Parker.
After his first kidney transplant failed, he's spent the last eight years, two to three hours a day, five days a week on dialysis.
Henri doesn't let that define his life. He's also a basketball coach, a youth minister, an author and he has his PhD.
"I keep myself busy so I don't have time to think about the things I can't do. I don't have time to sit and think about what my inability is, whatever my disability is, whatever my handicap is. It does not mean that I still can't live life, all it definitely means is I have a different way that I have to live life."
