Today is the day of love, and thanks to improvements in the economy, Americans are expected to drop more cash this year.
After pinching pennies, consumers are once again ready to shower their loved ones with gifts. According to IBIS World Research, Americans will spend $18.6 billion dollars this year on Valentine's Day purchases. That's nearly 6% more than last year, and breaks down to about $125 per person.
Candy and chocolates are at the top of the list, but the bulk of spending is expected to go towards food and eating out.
The National Retail Federation says the average man will drop more than $158 for Valentine's Day, while the average woman will only spend about $75.
