Some students in Aynor spent Friday raising money for something very close to their hearts. It was their annual Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser.

The students hoped to raise $25,000 this year for the American Heart Association.

It's especially important at Aynor Elementary School because last year, they lost 6-year-old Mary Kate Lovell to heart disease.

"My friend died of heart disease and her name was Mary Kate and she was really, really special and I really miss her very, very much," said Maggie Salley, a first grader at Aynor Elementary.

Heart disease is the second leading cause of death in children.
