(AP) -- SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - State health officials say there is still time for South Carolinians to get a flu shot as the state enters the peak of its flu season.
The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reported Sunday that eight people have died of the flu in South Carolina since October.
The state Department of Health and Environmental Control says this year's flu outbreak is not as bad as last year, though the number of hospitalizations is up in recent weeks.
Health care providers reported 12,551 positive rapid flu tests through the end of January. For the same period last year, 18,894 cases were reported.
