More than 500 people headed to the Burroughs and Chapin Museum in Myrtle Beach Saturday afternoon for a celebration of the Chinese New Year.
"Everybody is eager to learn about each other and about themselves," Executive Director Patricia Goodwin says.
Participants could see demonstrations, participate in workshop and face paintings, and walk through an array of tables demonstrating different facets of the Chinese culture.
February 3rd was the first day of the Chinese New Year 4709.
The 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. This year is the Year of the Rabbit.
Each new year is a 15-day long celebration. Chinese New Year is also known as Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival.
The event is one of three free community events the museum offers each year
