(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The wife of Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin has been elected as a Circuit Court judge.
The General Assembly voted unanimously Wednesday to elect 38-year-old DeAndrea Gist Benjamin to the seat after two other candidates withdrew.
DeAndrea Benjamin fills the seat of Circuit Judge Ernest Kinard, who retired in August about halfway through his six-year term.
She has been a municipal judge in Columbia. Circuit judges in South Carolina make $130,000 per year.
