Virgin Mobile is now offering free phone services to low income residents in South Carolina.
With the aid of the Governments Universal Service Fund, the company is giving one free cell phone per household with 250 minutes a month.
The Universal Service Fund already gives free landline services to low income families.
Those low income families receiving free landline services currently can not qualify for the free cell phones.
Assurance Wireless provided by Virgin Mobile includes local and domestic long-distance calling. To be eligible, South Carolina residents must qualify to receive any of the following programs:
1. Medicaid
2. Food Stamps
3. Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
To see if you qualify for the program, you must call 1-888-898-4888 or visit their website. Since the offer was announced Saturday, South Carolina residents have flooded the Assurance Wireless's call center.
The program is currently available in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and West Virginia.
