(AP) -- Federal regulators have lifted extra oversight that had been imposed at the Oconee Nuclear Station near Seneca following an inspection showed safety concerns have been corrected.
Victor McCree with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission said Wednesday the steps taken by Duke Energy to correct problems at the station were "comprehensive and thorough."
The NRC had ordered extra oversight of the three reactors at the station last year because of a problem with debris in screen filters that clogged lines with a standby shutdown facility that would be used if normal and emergency systems failed.
McCree says there was no immediate danger to the public, but the standby systems might not have worked in an emergency.
He says a weeklong inspection last month prompted officials to lift the extra oversight.
