(AP) -- Architects in Charleston are getting together to craft designs for affordable housing in the city.
The Friday session, formally called a charrette (shuh-RET'), is being held to produce drawings to create buildings on vacant lots on the Charleston peninsula. Teams of architects are creating designs for three affordable housing sites.
Mayor Joe Riley says such housing is a necessity on the peninsula and it's important to place it alongside existing neighborhoods.
Riley says the design work will save the city money.
