(AP) -- South Carolina schools Superintendent Mick Zais is suggesting $107 million in education cuts that include money for teacher training and evaluations, improvement on SAT scores, and school maintenance.
Zais on Tuesday recommended that House budget writers cut two dozen programs. He says while they're beneficial, trimming those program would have the least negative impact on student learning.
Zais' presentation also included a request for $36 million in more money for teacher stipends, additional teachers for online learning, and school bus transportation.
The stipends are required by law for teachers who earn a national certification.
Zais made the presentation to the House Ways and Means subcommittee that writes the budget for public schools.
