A volunteer fire department chief was arrested for driving under the influence over the weekend and has been placed on administrative duty.
Highway Patrol arrested Shannon Smith, 41, Sunday morning.
Smith is the chief of Howe Springs Volunteer Fire Department, but he's a paid employee of Florence County.
Jail booking reports show Smith blew a .08 in a breathalyzer test.
Smith is being charged with DUI first offense.
Howe Springs District Board Chairman Earl Liner says Smith will remain on administrative duty until the district board can meet with the Florence County attorney and seek his advice.
