Florence County sheriff's deputies arrested Jordan Jones, 20, and Brandon Grant, 22, after a chase through downtown Florence that interrupted a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day event.

Around 11:45 Monday, a march in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was stopped by Florence Police because Florence County sheriff's deputies were involved in a chase nearby.

Deputies tell us they tried to stop Jones and Grant for a traffic violation on Pamplico Highway near Carolinas Hospital Systems. The two refused to pull over.

Deputies began chasing the pair at speeds reaching 75 miles per hour. The chase lasted about ten minutes. When it became clear the chase would go over the Martin Luther King, Jr. Bridge, where marchers participating in an MLK event were headed, the march was stopped for the participants' safety.

The chase went down Freedom Boulevard to Cheves Street and finally ended on Stackley Street in the Florence city limits. Deputies say Jones and Grant jumped out of the car and ran into a wooded area. Deputies arrested them after a short chase on foot.

Deputies say the pair face drug and failure to stop charges. They say Jones was driving and is now also charged with driving under suspension.
