Ink Life Tattoo plans to hold a convention at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center this May. The local tattoo community is expecting thousands could come to the event over the May 27-29th weekend when it's being held.
At least 10 tattoo parlors line a section of Myrtle Beach's Seaboard Street. Local artist Loki, of Karma Tattoo thinks the convention could show the artistic side of the industry.
"Some of the people that are going to be at the convention are world renowned artists," he says. "You don't understand what things they can do not just with skin, but with paint, sculpting you'll get an opportunity to see a lot of different forms of art not just tattooing."
Tattooing became legal in south carolina in 2006. Just two years ago Governor Mark Sanford changed the legal age to get a tattoo from 21 to 18.
The convention will include tattooing, a battle of the bands, a pole dancing competition, and a human suspension demonstration.
The convention will be monitored by South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
