Think you've got what it takes to be a semi pro football player? A new semi pro football team, The Coastal Marauders, is holding tryouts at the end of the month. About 30 members of the team meet every Wednesday night for a weekly conditioning workout.
"Some the them are just out of high school. Some come from a professional background. We have a mix of guys," said Assistant Coach Pete Newkirk.
The semi pro, non profit football team is now practicing for their inaugural season.
"I heard about the football team from the guys at work," player Daniel Spencer. "I thought I'd come out and give it a shot."
Head Coach Ed Lewis and his team lead the group through stretches, drills and tests.
"I'm breathing hard right now. It's a really good workout," Spencer said.
The Marauders, whose name means outlaw or bandit, will compete in the Southeastern American Football League against teams from North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. The team's season will run from June through September, and might include additional playoffs and an all star game.
The Marauders are holding tryouts on January 29th. They're not planning on making any cuts.
