(AP) -- Snow, sleet and freezing rain spreading across South Carolina has closed the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, as well as the major bridge in Charleston.
Officials closed the Ravenel Bridge linking Charleston and Mount Pleasant late Monday morning, as the storm also shut down schools and state government offices.
The National Weather Service has a winter storm warning for most of the state through Tuesday.
Six inches of snow had fallen in the Greenville-Spartanburg area by late Monday morning, and forecasters said that could reach up to 12 inches.
Gov. Mark Sanford closed all state offices, and many local government officials followed his example.
Gov.-elect Nikki Haley canceled plans to announce another Cabinet appointment ahead of her scheduled inauguration on Wednesday.
