(AP) -- CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Officials at the South Carolina Aquarium in Charleston says cold-stunned sea turtles from North Carolina are recovering at its hospital.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported that 14 green and Kemp's ridley sea turtles were taken to the hospital last month after a severe cold spell in North Carolina. Five of them were transferred to Georgia.

Aquarium officials say ten cold-stunned turtles are recovering well among the 19 turtles in the Charleston hospital.

Cold-stunning is a condition similar to hypothermia that occurs when sea temperatures drop faster than the cold-blooded reptiles can handle.

Officials say the turtles might be released in late spring.
