(AP) -- South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. will be testing the siren warning system at its nuclear power plant in Fairfield County.

The company said in a news release that it will test the 106 sirens within a 10-mile radius of V.C. Summer Nuclear Station about 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The company says the sirens are sounded for one minute as part of the plant's quarterly testing program.

If there were an emergency at the plant, the sirens would sound for three minutes and would alert resident to tune to an Emergency Alert System radio or television station for instructions.
