To make sure revelers get home safe taxi companies are working overtime.
Because the holiday is such a popular time to go out those at Diamond Cab in Myrtle Beach say it's their busiest night of the year.
By 6 p.m. the phone was already beginning to ring with customers asking for rides to New Years Eve parties at the dispatch office, where two employees field calls all night.
Diamond Cab has 50 drivers and all of them will be working until early Sunday morning.
On average they pick up about 500 to 600 people on New Years.
Nine years ago the owner started the safe ride program after being hit by a drunk driver.
Those who drive to the bar but drink too much get a free ride home.
"It's something that is a personal experience for him as well as myself my father died from drinking and driving when I was 13 so it's our way of giving something back to the community and help keep the roads safe," said Joshua Rauzi..
Diamond Cab says they work with bartenders to help reduce the number of drunk drivers on the roads.
Safe Ride continues through February 7, just call 843-443-9000.
