It looked as if the Red Cross Christmas Dinner faced a transportation crisis this year.
But a good samaritan, literally, came along at the last minute to help.
Last year, an employee of the Coast RTA bus agency volunteered to drive homeless people to the dinner. But Coast RTA officials say that was done without agency approval and can't be legally repeated this year.
When word got out that bus transportation wasn't available for the homeless, Good Samaritan services, which offers medical transit to Horry County residents, stepped in to help.
"Apparently we're going to have 3 or 4 smaller vehicles doing the route between Street Reach {Mission}, Community Kitchen, and a few of the places where the homeless and people that are in most need go," said Lee Zulanch, a volunteer.
Zulanch says organizers will use the buses as efficiently as possible to get as many people as they can to the dinner.
