FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Five years after a $12 million project to renourish Folly Beach, the city says it has seen enough erosion to ask for more.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Sunday that why Folly is eroding so quickly is a mystery. Renourishment projects usually last eight to 10 years. The 2005-06 renourishment at Folly came 12 years after the previous one.

Other beaches are seeing similar problems.

Wild Dunes Resort has shored up its beachfront golf holes and on Isle of Palms wants to move sand to eroding areas where it renourished in 2008. Edisto Beach is looking to qualify for federal funds for a few of its "hot spots" after an $8 million project in 2006.

South Carolina's beaches are the centerpiece of its $18 billion tourism industry.
