Thursday night, things got pretty heated at the Florence School District One board meeting.
Board members called the meeting to discuss several issues that arose from the school board election in November.
Candidates Thurmond Becote and Terry James filed protests citing voting irregularities within the district.
They argue the map for the school district was changed before the election and that impacted their races.
Based on that map, officials with the Florence County Election Commission say they had to place voters in the right districts. But officials say they didn't notify the school board as to the changes made.
"There needs to be much better communication going forward, particularly when these activities are taking place during an actual election cycle. I think the lesson that should be learned is that a great deal of confusion can arise based on the timing of this," said School Board Chairman Porter Stewart.
The U.S. Justice Cepartment is investigating the changing of the maps and the candidates protests. That investigation could take several months.
