Today was the 5th annual Coats for Kids distribution.
Each year, the Coast RTA collects donated winter coats and other shirts, pants, and toys for area children in need.
"You don't realize people going around all they got is a sweater and some be so shy, some be so shamed I say but it's nothing to be shamed off. when you need, you need," said Bernice Franks, who left with several coats and blankets.
The public transportation company has spent the past month and a half gathering and organizing the more than 500 coats, hats, gloves and other clothing items collected throughout Horry County for the Coats for Kids campaign.
The employees set up shop at the National Guard Armory on 16th Avenue for Saturday's distribution.
Those in need are welcome to stop by and pick up a coat.
"We're so pleased to be able to assist people with warm clothing especially with the frigid temperatures we've been having lately," said organizer Yvette Jefferson.
Volunteers say they think the recent cold temperatures is the reason why so many people came out for coats.
