(AP) -- A Pickens County high school coach and former Clemson University basketball player has been accused of assaulting his teenage teaching assistant.

Multiple media outlets report that 33-year-old Tony Christie had been charged with assault and battery. He was released from jail Monday on a personal recognizance bond.

Deputies say the 16-year-old Daniel High School student says Christie touched her buttocks and put his hand inside her blouse in October. The student says she told Christie to stop and left his office.

Christie played basketball at Clemson from 1996 to 1999. He was hired as Daniel's head coach in June and has been placed on leave.

It was not immediately clear if Christie had an attorney or if any court hearings had been scheduled.
