(AP) -- Some Sarah Palin fans in Columbia endured rain and cold overnight to nab a wristband that promises some face time with the former Alaska governor during her book signing.

The State newspaper of Columbia reported several hundred people waited hours in line to get one of 500 wristbands distributed Wednesday at the Books-A-Million store where Palin will autograph her new book.

A few waited overnight in temperatures that dropped to the low 40s.

The former Republican vice presidential candidate and potential 2012 presidential contender is set to sign copies of her latest book at 6 p.m. Friday.

The bookstore designated 500 wristbands on a first-come, first-serve basis for a guaranteed autograph. By 8 p.m. Wednesday, the store had distributed 425 of them.
