(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is joining the Marine Corps Reserve in its effort to collect toys for needy children for the holidays.

Sanford spokesman Ben Fox says Sanford was appearing with the Marines at noon Thursday on the north side of the State House in Columbia.

The Marines are holding their annual campaign to collect new, unwrapped toys and distribute them as Christmas gifts to children in the community.

Fox says the Marines will accept toys at anytime from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the site.
