The so-called "Limping Bandit" was sentenced Tuesday for nearly two dozen bank robberies throughout the Southeast.
Cecil Stephen Haire, 52, of Douglas, Georgia will spend 25 years in federal prison.
Between 2006 and 2009, he robbed 23 banks, 13 of them in South Carolina, 3 in Georgia, 3 in Alabama, and 4 in Florida.
At the time of the first robbery, Haire was on parole after serving about 15 years in prison. He was convicted in 1987 of robbing three banks in New York and seven businesses in Georgia.
He was arrested after robbing a Mount Pleasant bank on July 17, 2009, and two witnesses followed his car.
Police found a BB pistol Haire admitted to using in all the robberies.
Haire became known as the "Limping Bandit" after many of the bank tellers described the robber as having a noticeable limp when he left the banks. His limp is due to childhood polio.
