(AP) -- A tornado watch is in effect for parts of western South Carolina and North Carolina as a storm system that spawned tornadoes that injured 15 people in Mississippi moves east.

The tornado watch runs until 10 p.m. Tuesday and includes most of South Carolina from Columbia west and 16 counties mostly in the foothills of North Carolina, including the cities of Charlotte and Hickory.

The National Weather Service says there is a moderate chance of two or more tornadoes developing during the watch, and a chance they may be strong tornadoes.

This same storm system has dropped tornadoes in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama in the past 24 hours.
