(AP) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated 10 South Carolina counties as natural disaster areas because of ongoing dry weather along the western edge of the state.
The designation means qualified farmers are eligible for low interest emergency loans from the USDA's Farm Service Agency.
The government declared 151 Georgia counties natural disaster areas because of losses due to the dry weather and excessive heat that started last summer.
The declaration includes 10 border counties in South Carolina as well. Those South Carolina counties are Abbeville, Aiken,
Allendale, Anderson, Barnwell, Edgefield, Hampton, Jasper, Oconee and McCormick.
