(AP) -- Riverbanks Zoo officials say a male baboon who killed his newborn infant has accepted a baby born earlier this month.
Zoo officials said in a news release Tuesday that the 8-day-old Hamadryas baboon has bonded with its parents and the rest of the troop.
It is the second baby born this year. One born in April died within hours of its birth after the male picked it up and threw it.
Zoo spokeswoman Lindsay Burke says staffers saw the female going into labor last week and were able to separate her from the rest of the troop while keeping them in view.
After allowing a day for mother-baby bonding, the rest of the troop was given access.
