James Enterprises gave 115 turkeys at Hot Steps in Timmonsville to those in need this Thanksgiving holiday.
Tuesday morning, nearly two thousand people lined up around the Darlington Square for the chance to get a free turkey for Thanksgiving.
The Lord Cares and the Darlington Chamber of Commerce, along with dozens of businesses, have sponsored the turkey giveaway for the past seven years. This year, they gave away 1,200 turkeys.
Dozens of people began lining up around 11 p.m. Monday in anticipation of the free turkeys. We're told an 80-year-old woman had to get medical attention because she nearly passed out Tuesday morning after waiting nearly four hours. She's expected to be ok.
Several volunteers and Darlington Police helped with traffic and crowd control to make sure everything went smoothly. Organizers say the event gets larger every year.
Also Tuesday morning, James Enterprises gave 115 turkeys at Hot Steps in Timmonsville to those in need this Thanksgiving holiday.
About 30 people left empty handed because they ran out of turkeys, but many say they were still thankful for what James Enterprises had done.
They were able to give most of the turkeys to senior citizens on fixed incomes. This is the first year the company has held a free turkey giveaway. Company officials say they'll start earlier next year, so they'll be able to help more people.
