(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Columbia police will join state and federal agents to give some tips on how to stay safe during the holiday shopping season.

State Law Enforcement Division Chief Reggie Lloyd, U.S. Secret Service Special Agent-In-Charge Michael Williams and Columbia interim Police Chief Randy Scott are joining forces Monday to help Christmas shoppers.

Williams says anyone paying with cash should look closely at any bills they get as change before leaving the register to check for counterfeit money.

Scott says his officers will increase patrols at major shopping centers. He says shoppers should lock their doors, store their bags in their trunks and not keep any valuables visible through windows.

Lloyd says shoppers should guard their credit card information closely.
