Local charities along the Grand Strand and in the Pee Dee received big donations Thursday.
Bi-Lo Charities presented checks worth totaling almost $50,000 to non-profit organizations. The recipients are:
- Vital Aging of Williamsburg County
- The Boys and Girls Club of the Grand Strand
- Teach My People in Pawleys Island
- Coastal Chapter of the American Red Cross
- North Strand Helping Hand
- South Strand Lions Club for South Strand Assembly Food Bank
- Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach
- Omar Clowns
- Williamsburg Regional Boys to Men Clubs, Inc.
The director of Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach says the more than $10,000 donation they received, could not have come at a better time. "People are going to give their children Christmas no matter what, but after Christmas is when it all comes to a screeching halt, and they'll be coming into Helping Hand to pay all the bills they couldn't pay during the holidays," said Adrian Weatherwax.
Bi-Lo officials say they are committed to providing funding for projects that provide meaningful and sustainable change.
