(AP) -- Investigators say they believe they have found the remains of a disabled 10-year-old girl who was reported missing in North Carolina about a month ago.

Hickory Police Chief Tom Adkins said Friday that they have recovered enough physical evidence to believe they have found Zahra Baker.

Zahra had bone cancer that forced her to use a prosthetic leg and hearing aids. She was reported missing by her parents Oct. 9.

Adkins says a bone found in western North Carolina has matched Zahra's DNA.

The girl's stepmother, 42-year-old Elisa Baker, has been charged with obstruction of justice. Police say she admitted writing a bogus ransom note that was discovered the same day a fire was reported at the family's home.
