(AP) -- Three officers and four inmates have been hospitalized after a fight inside a maximum security prison in South Carolina.
Corrections Department spokesman Josh Gelinas says the officers were trying to break up an inmate fight at around 9 a.m. Monday in a dormitory at the Lee Correctional Institution in Bishopville.
Gelinas says the officers suffered cuts and are being checked at a hospital. He could not say how seriously any of the inmates were hurt.
Gelinas says the prison that houses 1,700 male inmates has been placed on lockdown. Investigators are interviewing other inmates in the dorm.
