(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a hearing to discuss Progress Energy's handling of an issue at its Hartsville plant.
Monday's meeting is open to the public and will be held at the commission's regional office in Atlanta.
The regulatory enforcement conference will focus on the failure of a breaker on an emergency diesel generator at the plant owned and operated by the Raleigh, N.C.-based power company. The initial incident happened in 2008, but the NRC said the condition persisted for 16 months and caused a fire at the plant in March 2010.
That fire was one of three incidents that caused the plant to shut down this year. The plant has been offline since Oct. 7 because of an electrical problem in one of the coolant pump motors.
