(AP) -- CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The South Carolina State Ports Authority and the Army Corps of Engineers are signing an agreement on disposing of silt from the Charleston Harbor shipping channels.

Officials from the two agencies sign the agreement Monday at the authority headquarters in downtown Charleston.

The agencies are agreeing to share the costs of improving a dredge disposal site along Clouter Creek in the upper reaches of the harbor.

The project involves raising the dikes on the disposal site allowing the area to be used for dredge disposal for another two decades.
