ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina emergency management officials say residents in counties flooded by rains from Tropical Storm Nicole have received more than $3.7 million in federal and state grants and loans.
Emergency Management Director Doug Hoell said in a news release Friday that the bulk of the money had come from the Federal Emergency Management Administration's program for temporary housing and home repairs.
Hoell says about 3,400 people have registered for state and federal disaster assistance and more than 2,700 damaged homes have been inspected by FEMA.
Residents in 14 eastern counties are eligible for federal financial assistance after flooding damaged thousands of homes and businesses.
Eastern portions of the state saw up to 24 inches of rain over a couple of days last month.
