Randolph Gurley has been suspended from office by Governor Mark Sanford.
Governor Mark Sanford has suspended Dillon Mayor Pro-Tem Randoph Gurley from office.
Gurley was indicted last week by the Dillon County Grand Jury on charges of attempted murder, criminal domestic violence and two counts of distribution of marijuana.
The order issued by the Governor's Office Friday says the crimes of attempted murder and criminal domestic violence are crimes involving moral turpitude. The order says Gurley should be suspended until he is formally acquitted or convicted.
In August, state police charged Gurley with attempted murder after they say he intentionally ran a man over, following an argument.
Gurley is also charged with distribution of a controlled substance near a school and distribution of cocaine. The Dillon County Sheriff's Office and the State Law Enforcement Division say that charge stems from an investigation that started in June when they say Gurley sold drugs to an undercover agent.
In July, SLED alsocharged him with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. Officers say in that case, his wife filed an incident report saying Gurley threatened her with a knife.
