The Darlington County School District announced Friday that Coach Justin Danner has resigned as head football coach of Darlington High School.

According to a news release, Danner, who was Coach of the Year for Region 6-3A in 2009, plans to pursue other opportunities but will continue to serve as guidance counselor at Mayo High School for Math, Science & Technology. Danner will complete the school year in his coaching capacity.

"It is in leaving that one must look forward," Danner said in the release. "I look forward to many other opportunities to coach and excel, but will always look back fondly on the time I spent at Darlington High School. Working with these young men will always be one of the brightest spots in my time here at the district."

"We appreciate Coach Danner's hard work and dedication to his players and students," said Greg Harrison, principal of Darlington High School. "We wish him the best of luck and no doubt he will continue to serve his students well."

The school district will post the head football coach position sometime in the next few weeks.
