(AP) -- MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) - Animal advocates say at least five of the dogs seized during a dog fighting raid in Berkeley County will have to be euthanized.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported that the executive director of the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says at least five of the 19 dogs taken in the raid Saturday will have to be put down.

Marcia Atkinson says the decision comes because of the dogs' health or temperament issues. Berkeley and Florence County sheriff's deputies arrested seven men in the raid on a home in Moncks Corner and charged with dog fighting and baiting.

Atkinson says many of the dogs showed signs of scarring that it is typical of dog fighting.

She says five dogs are still being evaluated and seven others will be available for adoption.
