(AP) -- Two companies have applied to run casino boats from North Charleston.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported that Palmetto Casino Cruz Inc. of Charleston and Diamond Casino Cruz II Inc. of Myrtle Beach have applied to operate boats.

North Charleston City Council gave final approval to the operation of gambling boats last week.

Richard Adolfi with Palmetto Casino Cruz says the North Charleston operation would be similar to boats being operated in Little River and in Savannah, Ga.

Alvin Shuman with Diamond Casino Cruz didn't provide many details of his proposal, but did say it would be a "party-type" boat with entertainment and food.

Each man said he expected to hire about 100 people.
