The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has scheduled a meeting to discuss the safety significance of inspection findings at the Robinson Nuclear Power Plant in Hartsville.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will meet Monday in Atlanta at 1:00pm.

According to a release from the NRC, the meeting is a regulatory enforcement conference and the discussion will focus on the safety significance of a preliminary white inspection finding and second apparent violation being considered for potential escalated enforcement. The findings are associated with electrical problems with one of the plant's emergency diesel generators. Emergency diesel generators at nuclear plants provide backup power to safely shut down the plant if the site were to lose all other sources of offsite power.

Members of the public may attend the meeting and NRC officials will be available to answer questions after the discussion.

The NRC release says under its reactor oversight process, inspection findings are evaluated using a significance determination process and assigned a color indicating the safety significance. Findings with very low safety significance are labeled "green." "White" findings have low to moderate safety significance, "yellow" findings have substantial safety significance, and "red" findings have high safety significance. Inspection findings with higher safety significance than "green" prompt the NRC to increase oversight and inspection.

The meeting notice and the relevant NRC inspection report are available through the agency's electronic reading room.  The documents can be accessed using the number ML102810633.
