A candlelight vigil Thursday night honored victims of domestic violence.

More than fifty people participated in the event at Horry Georgetown Technical College's Conway campus.

Thursday night wrapped up a domestic violence lecture series at the school.

Organizers with Citizens Against Spouse Abuse say the vigil is an emotional moment.

According to Alisa Rhahiem, CASA's Assistant Director, "I guess because you start to think about those that are not here, because we also have the silent witness silhouettes that are present here in the auditorium during this, and so you think about those who are not here, but you also think that some of the individuals holding those candles are going through abusive relationships."

South Carolina ranks ninth in the nation for domestic violence homicide.

CASA officials say they hope Thursday's event also brought awareness to the services they offer, which includes a safe house.
