Law enforcement is stepping up measures to keep an eye on convicted sex offenders this Halloween.
Horry County pardon and parole officers have imposed a curfew on convicted sex offenders that are now under supervision. The curfew lasts from 5:30pm to 9:30pm on October 31st.
Last Halloween night, officers rounded up the sex offenders under supervision and took them to the old courthouse in Conway during the curfew period.
This year, there are a little more than one hundred sex offenders in Horry County who are on parole or probation. Officers will be doing surveillance, making phone calls, and performing random checks to make sure the offenders are at home.
The offenders also had to sign a document stating they are aware of the rules. "My guys know this is a serious time of year. They are notified way ahead of time to be home, what's expected of them, so we have not had any problems in Horry County," said Richard Loskill, SC Pardon and Parole.
Even with stepped up patrols of sex offenders who are on probation, law enforcement officials urge you to find out if there is a convicted sex offender living in your neighborhood.
In addition to the curfew, the sex offenders are also not allowed to have outside lights on, they can't give out candy, and they can't have any holiday decorations in their yards.
Officers will check on offenders on the list in Conway on Saturday night, when trick or treat is being held there. They'll check on those in the rest of the county on Sunday night.
Keep in mind, only sex offenders who are on probation or parole are subject to the rules.
