Since Halloween falls on a Sunday this year, many of you have contacted our newsroom for answers on when to celebrate. Some cities and counties in our area are observing it on Saturday night instead.
"It's always easier on the weekend night when you don't have to get the kids ready for school the next day, because they like to stay out late trick or treating the night they do it," says Michael Cox, a father from Horry County.
Since the holiday falls on Sunday there's been a question on exactly when to celebrate.
"In Horry County, we have never been in the business of changing the holiday. We feel like it's a little more confusing if you do. So we keep Halloween and trick or treating on the same day every year," says county spokesman Lisa Bourcier.
While Horry County and the City of Myrtle Beach aren't making any changes. The City of Conway, Marion County and Florence County recommend that it be observed on Saturday. Parents we spoke with say when to celebrate isn't an issue for them.
"I just went online and looked up what was available in the area, and we typically take our children to Market Common, so that's what we're going to doing again this year," says Jennifer Williams, a mother from Horry County.
"It's like a word of mouth thing. This neighbor tells this neighbor tells that neighbor tells that neighbor. It worked its way down our block to the bottom to me at the other end," adds Cox.
In the interest of safety, you should dress your children only in costumes that are bright and reflective. And they should always carry a flashlight when trick or treating.
