You may have heard of a water bra, but what about bras hanging over water.

In honor of breast cancer awareness, a local group tied up more than 800 bras, hung them across a portion of the Intracoastal Waterway, and formed a "Chain of Hope."

The "Bras Across the Water" event drew a big crowd who gathered at Filet's Restaurant in North Myrtle Beach. Experts say breast cancer affects one in eight women.

"We're just trying to bring more awareness. Since breast cancer awareness month started, people having mammograms have doubled, and the cancer rate has declined, so it is working by bringing getting early detection," says Karen Berry with the the Freedom Boat Club.

Organizers hope to raise more than $10,000 from Wednesday's fundraiser. All the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life 2011.

This is the first year for the "Bras Across the Water" event.
