Election day is exactly one week from today.
Monday night, state Representative Nikki Haley, a Republican, and state Senator Vincent Sheheen, a Democrat, faced off on the debate stage for the second time. The candidates for governor debated in Columbia on E-TV.
Sheheen said the state must invest more in early childhood education as the economy improves. He added, his first order of business would be appointing a top-notch commerce secretary to help bring jobs to the state.
Meanwhile, Haley noted that South Carolina must ask businesses and faith-based groups to do more. The Republican said she would first develop a 10-year plan for the state that would include comprehensive tax reform.
Haley and Sheheen's final debate is tonight at Francis Marion University in Florence.
