(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Republican gubernatorial nominee Nikki Haley is blasting her opponent for missing an anti-union vote in the Senate earlier this year, leaving her to defend her own voting absences.

Haley criticized Democratic Sen. Vincent Sheheen on Thursday for not being in the Senate in March during a vote on a proposed constitutional amendment aimed at keeping unions out of the state.

The measure passed and will be on the November ballot.

Sheheen's campaign says he supports secret ballot rights as a way to keep South Carolina business friendly.

His spokesman says Haley has no room to criticize. He notes Haley did not attend any of her subcommittee meetings this year and missed floor votes on Boeing incentives.

Haley says she was there when it mattered.
